THE PREMIERE OF JUSTĖ JANULYTĖ’S PIECE APNEA RECEIVES POSITIVE REVIEWS FROM THE GERMAN MEDIA
The world premiere of Justė Janulytė’s piece Apnea on 16-17 June received positive reviews by music critics in the German press.
Paul Schäufele wrote in the daily Süddeutsche Zeitung that “the effect of Janulytė’s work is hypnotic. The composer deserves the praising cries of “Bravo!”.
Anna Schurmer in the daily Münchener Merkur expressed her admiration for the piece: “The composer weaves a high-density organic carpet of sound continuously building the pressure, until black, multicoloured, spotted stars begin to dance near the inner ear, just before fainting.”
Robert Braunmüller, the culture editor at Abendzeitung.muenchen, shared his impressions: “The soft, rainbow-like sounds of Apnea rise as if from nowhere, building to a dynamic culmination, only to disappear and become inaudible again. Somewhere behind the many strings, a mesmerisingly beautiful melody was hidden.”
The recording of Justė Janulytė’s work Apnea was broadcast on Bavarian Radio on 28 July at 16:05.
