1996 – won a professorship competition and taught at the University of Oslo. From 1998, teaches Baltic Philology and General Linguistics at Pisa University. From 2018, also teaches Translation Theory and Practice.Verta paminėti
In 2002, received the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas. That same year was awarded the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award by the Alexandr von Humboldt Foundation. In 2005, elected an Honorary Doctor of Vilnius University. In 2007, received the St Jerome Prize awarded by the Lithuanian Association of Literary Translators. In 2007 and 2011, received the Poetry Spring Festival Prize of the Lithuanian Writers' Union. Since 2003, foreign member-correspondent of Latvia, since 2007 - of Lithuania and since 2010 - the Göttingen Academy of Sciences. In 2010, received the Medal of the three Baltic academies of sciences; in 2011, the Latvian Academy of Sciences Janis Endzelins' Prize. In 2014, received the award of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania titled “Nešk savo tiesą ir tikėk”.Member of the editorial college of eleven scientific and cultural magazines and journals of continuous publication model. In 1995, together with Nikolai Mikhailov, founded and edited the magazine Res Balticae dedicated to Baltic studies (13 editions until 2013). Author of numerous articles, translations and several monographs.
