Chair: July
Created: 2006
Design studio: Contraforma

The chair July was awarded second place in the Neformate design contest in 2006 in the competition for the most Lithuanian chair. Its designer Žilvinas Stankevičius (born 1966) sought to portray a poetic vision of the Lithuanian summer, to create the impression of grass turning to hay. The chair was constructed from left-over bits from wooden windows and furniture, using small good-quality cuttings of softwood, which were glued together using a special press and then polished with a sanding belt.

Stankevičius graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 1995 with a degree in sculpture. He has been working as a product designer since 2005, collaborating with the Contraforma design studio, and participating in design exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. His creations are distinguished by their pure forms. He is interested in eco-friendly design ideas. He also designed the award, an oak sphere, for the Good Design contest, which is presented to the best Lithuanian designers and manufacturers.
