This series of books introduces children to different emotions—anger, sadness, fear, and joy. The author invites young readers to reflect on how people usually behave when they feel angry or afraid and how they might express these feelings in healthier ways. Short and precise descriptions of situations familiar to children, together with playful illustrations, help readers recognise and manage their emotions so that these do not become overwhelming, destructive, distracting, or hurtful to others. For example, we rarely consider that for a sensitive child there can be not only too much sadness but also too much joy. To prevent joy from overflowing, the author suggests sharing good feelings with others, writing a poem or a song, or even running a lap around the house. At the end of each book, children are invited to review what they have learned by drawing two situations: how they feel when experiencing a particular emotion and what they could do to feel better.
According to the author, every emotion and every feeling has meaning and value. Recognising and naming one’s own emotions, as well as understanding the emotions and feelings of others, is an extremely important skill that helps build meaningful relationships both with oneself and with the world around us.
