Hide-and-seek

Nadia Kovaliova. Slėpynės (Hide-and-seek), Kaunas: Žalias kalnas, 2025. – 28 p.

This picture book tells a cheerful story about five little rabbits invited to play hide-and-seek by the biggest rabbit, Albertas. Another rabbit, wearing yellow shorts, volunteers to count and begins counting to ten while the others hide. For Albertas, however, hiding proves difficult: the burrow seems too narrow, the tree stump too small, and he does not want to damage the flowers or garden beds. Eventually he finds a gigantic hiding place. The rabbit who is searching manages to find everyone – except Albertas. Where could he have hidden so cleverly? Eventually Albertas reveals himself and encourages the others to hide again, this time because of a real danger. The book has an educational aspect: children are invited to think, guess where the character is hiding, learn how to react in a dangerous situation, and even practise counting.
