Choreographer and dancer Ugnė Dievaitytė lives and works in Madrid, Spain, since 2011. Dievaitytė studied contemporary dance, dance improvisation technique and dance-movement therapy in Lithuania with teachers from Europe, the USA and Russia. In 2016, she participated in the DanceWEB dance programme (ImPulsTanz, Vienna, Austria). Dievaitytė graduated in psychology studies from Vytautas Magnus University and holds a Master’s degree in health psychology.

The core performances created by Dievaitytė are Es como ver nubes (As if you’d be watching clouds, 2012), Uninvited Presence (2013), Flesh (2014), Female (2015), Anhelo (Longing, 2016), and Nakties mirgėjimas (Flickering of the Night, 2019). Many of her works won awards in Spain and have been presented in theatres and festivals in Ireland, the United Kingdom, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Germany.

Dievaitytė’s latest performance created in Lithuania is Nakties mirgėjimas (Flickering of the Night, 2019). This piece, inspired by the biography and work of the controversial Lithuanian poet Salomėja Nėris (1904–1945), brings face to face two women with twenty years between them, who embody and reflect different periods of the poet’s and woman’s life, coexisting on stage. In the performance created for the Šeiko Dance Theatre, movements and glances act as witnesses of the flow of time, historical contexts and places. Revealing the shared human experiences, Flickering of the Night invites us to reflect on the imprint of the historical context on our actions.
