Rimantas Ribačiauskas
Rimantas Ribačiauskas (b. 1984) obtained a degree in audio-visual arts from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and a degree in Interactive digital media studies from Dublin University. Since 2013, he has been working as a project manager at the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre. He started writing drama for the theatre in 2017. The first play he contributed to as a playwright was a documentary piece Žalia pievelė (Green Meadow) about the decaying town of Visaginas, directed by Jonas Tertelis. It was followed by Dreamland, another documentary work directed by Mantas Jančiauskas, focusing on foreigners and their integration in the country. Ribačiauskas’s works are integral to the contribution of the whole creative team.
Glaistas (Glaze, 2019) is Ribačiauskas’s most acclaimed dramatic work where every member of the creative team is equally important: the director Mantas Jančiauskas, the composer Jūra Elena Šedytė and the composer Andrius Šiurys. It is an audio journey through the former Vilnius ghetto and the broken twists and turns of Holocaust memories. The audio map of the journey is comprised of musical fragments which were composed specifically for each of the physical spaces, while the direction is determined by the voices of four Holocaust survivors who have moved to Israel from their native Vilna after the war. Their voices were recorded during the conversations with the creators of Glaze in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa in May 2019.
