Blow Me Down, Grandpa!

Aušrinė Tilindė, Greta Alice. Po šimts pypkių, seneli! (Blow Me Down, Grandpa! ), Vilnius: Alma littera, 2025. – 232 p.

Ben is a curious, playful ten-year-old with many questions. His grandfather Bernard is short in stature but has kind eyes and a big heart. He always has a supply of sweets, countless hiding places, a cheerful cloud which sometimes visits him, and a special secret weapon – a sock called Speedy that carries him off on adventures. Through these adventures, the author introduces young readers to the history of Lithuania’s post-war resistance movement, using objects that tell stories and can even transport the characters into a partisan bunker. This theme alternates with bright and lively scenes of interaction between the characters. The result is a witty and touching story about the special bond between a grandfather and a grandson, about children’s ability to make friends and change their perspectives, and about learning to search for solutions together. The pleasure of reading is enhanced by the warm and lively illustrations by Greta Alice that are woven into the text.
