Selemonas Paltanavičius, Eídvilė. Skruzdėliuko užrašai: Metai skruzdėlyne (The Little Ant’s Notes: A Year in the Anthill), Vilnius: Alma littera, 2025. – 56 p.
The book The Little Ant’s Notes belongs both to the realm of fairy tale literature and to popular science writing. It tells the story of a book carefully kept deep inside an anthill, in which the history of the ant family is recorded. The book is written by a curious little ant. It explains what ants use to build their anthill, how they find their way around their multi-storey home, what ants like to eat most, what is special about the anthill’s mother, and many other things. The narrative offers many fascinating facts about ants, depicts the harmonious and well-organised life of the anthill, and encourages kindness, helpfulness, attentiveness, and care for nature. Young readers will be attracted not only by the cleverly presented information but also by the uplifting tone of the story and the strong emotional bond with the ant’s mother. At the end of the book there is an informative article written by the author about different species of ants living in the world and in Lithuania, accompanied by photographs. The colourful illustrations of the book are especially eye-catching.
