Strawberry Day

Kęstutis Kasparavičius. Braškių diena (Strawberry Day), Vilnius: Nieko rimto, 2016. – 96 p.

Odd things happen in these 23 stories. There is nothing particularly surprising in the objects and creatures in them which we see nearly every day, but the artist and writer Kęstutis Kasparavičius (b. 1954) has his own way of seeing. His Teddy Bear is an artist, Piglet becomes an opera soloist, Hedgehog is unable to tell his right from his left, and gingerbread biscuits grow on a vine … This picture book is about things that never happened, and probably never will, but they were definitely worth describing and drawing!

Kęstutis Kasparavičius (b. 1954) is a graphic artist, book illustrator, writer and one of the most widely recognised Lithuanian children’s authors. He has illustrated more than sixty books for children. His works have been translated into several languages. Few children’s authors can take pride in the honour of being read in twenty-eight languages. His main technique is pencil and watercolour. He has won awards in Lithuania and worldwide, including the ALMA and Hans Christian Andersen Awards.
