Mettis
The Mettis string quartet is an ensemble that is establishing itself on international stages at a formidable pace. Four young men, Kostas Tumosa (first violin), Bernardas Petrauskas (second violin), Karolis Rudokas (viola) and Rokas Vaitkevičius (cello), started playing together in 2011, when they were still studying at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. By 2016, they had become laureates of the Ninth International V.E. Rimbotti Competition (Italy), and won the second prize in the prestigious international string competition in Bordeaux (France).
In 2012 and 2014, the quartet participated in the international summer academy in Reichenau (Austria), and won the Vienna University Joseph Haydn Award and the Gottfried von Einem Prize for outstanding interpretation. In 2012, Mettis were selected to participate in a master-class given by the music academy in Villecroze (France), where they had a chance to work with the legendary pianist Alfred Brendel, and Miguel da Silva, the viola player with the Ysaÿe Quartet.
Mettis has been a member of the ECMA (European Chamber Music Academy) since 2014, and regularly participates in series with this forum.
In 2015, the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society released a CD of music by Ludwig van Beethoven and Dmitri Shostakovich. In 2016, the quartet appeared for the first time on the stage of London’s Wigmore Hall. It has performed in Austria, Italy, Germany, Bulgaria, France, Hungary and China.
