AUSTĖJA PLATUKYTĖ
Project: Zero Waste experimental packaging
Created: 2016
This is an ongoing project designed by Austėja Platukytė (b. 1992), inspired by the environmental movement and concerns about environmental pollution. While designing this project, Platukytė was guided by the philosophy of the zero-waste movement and conducted various experiments to find alternatives to plastic packaging. The solution she developed uses an algae-based biodegradable organic material for cosmetics packaging which, once used, can simply be disposed into compost or soil and used as fertilizer. The experimental packaging project was presented in Lithuania and at international design events.
Austėja Platukytė is a product designer and materials researcher. She completed her bachelor’s and master’s degree studies at the Design Department of the Vilnius Academy of Arts and, since 2018, has continued to purse a doctorate degree in design. Platukytė teaches at higher education institutions in Lithuania and abroad and has interned with and participated in international design exhibitions and conferences. In her work and experimentation, she collaborates with companies in Lithuania and abroad searching for environmentally friendly solutions. In her endeavour to help create a socially responsible and sustainable environment and contribute to the creation of a more sustainable world through her work, Platukytė adheres to the green design philosophy and the Cradle to Cradle methodology.
