Milda Januševičiūtė
Milda Januševičiūtė (born 1990) is an emerging artist and cultural sociologist based in Vilnius. Her field of interest includes interdisciplinary projects exploring the themes of care, healthcare, hope, and resilience. The artist has previously worked in various fields from theatre to music and visual arts, as a producer, researcher, coordinator, accountant, and situation management specialist. These experiences have led the artist into filmmaking. In her current works with moving images, Milda Jaunuševičiūtė examines the emergence of various emotional states within health systems. In her films, the artist’s autobiography, sociological observations, and everyday experiences blend with a reflection on cultural differences in relation to the concepts of hope, care, and resilience.
In the video installation ‘Powerless Medicine’ (2019), created in collaboration with the artist Miša Skalskis, she develops parallels between health care systems and forms of creative legitimacy, future and memories, body nurturing, and the search for meaning. In the fantastic world of her work, the boundaries between conventional and alternative medicine have disappeared, and forever-young characters embark on the path of self-exploration.
Some of Januševičiūtė’s most important recent projects include group exhibitions at the Contemporary Art Centre in Vilnius, the Vadim Sidur Museum at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art; film presentations at the National Gallery of Art and the Rupert Center for Art and Education in Vilnius, the Wellcome Collection in London, the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam, and PAF: the Festival of Film Animation and Contemporary Art in Olomouc ( Czech Republic, 2018).
