Mūza Rubackytė

Mūza Rubackytė is a phenomenal pianist, whose long and impressive career has ensured her a special place in Lithuanian music.

Mūza Rubackytė was born into a family of musicians, and she made her début in Vilnius at the age of seven, performing Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D major with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra. Six years later, she won the first prize in the All-Union Young Artists’ Competition, which earned her a place at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where she studied under Yakov Flier, Mikhail Voskressensky and Bela Davidovitch among others.

Under the limited conditions of the time , her career entailed giving performances with orchestras all over the Soviet Union, and recitals abroad in Cairo, Prague and Budapest. She was denied the chance to go on many tours, but was allowed to enter the Budapest International Piano Competition (Liszt/Bartók), and won the Grand Prix. Political changes and Lithuania’s independence made it possible for her to settle in Paris, which she made the base for her successful international career.
