Jauna muzika (Young Music) is a professional chamber choir, directed by the conductor and composer Vaclovas Augustinas. The choir is regarded as one of the most outstanding and powerful vocal ensembles in Lithuania, holding over 60 concerts each year, in Lithuania and abroad. Jauna muzika has been a laureate of 15 international choir competitions. In 1993, it won the main award, the European Choral Grand Prix at the Winner of Major Competitions Contest, organised by the Association of International Choir Competitions in Varna in Bulgaria. Over 20 years, the choir has developed a rich and diverse repertoire, comprising scores from every era. Contemporary music occupies an important place in their repertoire. Every year, Jauna muzika holds choral music interpretation and conducting courses, led by renowned European and world specialists. The choir has been conducted by masters of the baton such as Pincho Steinberg, Wolfgang Gönenwein, Noam Sheriff, Nicholas McGegan, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Vladimir Spivakov, Hermann Maxas, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Manfred Honeck, William Boughton, Johannes Prinz, Bo Holten and Bob Chillcot. Its tours have taken in various cities in Europe, China, Japan and Israel, where the choir has performed more than once. Jauna muzika have performed at the Munich Philharmonic, Berliner Philharmoniker, Berlin Festival Theatre, the Grand Hall at Dresden Palace of Culture, Ludvigsburg Theatre, the St Matthew Church in Budapest, Frankfurt’s Alte Opera, the Rachmaninov Concert Hall in Moscow, Shanghai Grand Opera House, and other venues.
