Rocking chair: Ops!

Created: 2010
Manufacturer: Sedes Regia

The designer Jonas Jurgaitis’ armchair Ops! won the Lithuanian Good Design Prize in 2012. Prior to this, it was chosen as the best piece in the living-room furniture category at the International Furniture Fair Singapore in 2012. Ops! is an armchair and a rocking chair, like a cradle or a nest, that two people can fit into. The piece is comprised of a padded bent plywood frame, and six pillows that can be arranged in different ways to create the most comfortable sitting position.

Jurgaitis graduated from the Simonas Konarskis Art School in Vilnius in 1984. He currently resides in London, and designs interiors and furniture. His seating designs (Alien, which won the Grand Prize at the Baltic Furniture Design Competition in Riga in 2008, JujuSoftringVectorPomponTufty) might be considered original sculptures, decorations, or Pop Art objects, although they are all functional.

Jurgaitis says that the most important thing to him is to surprise people and to make them smile. It seems he is successful in doing this, as is demonstrated by his successful collaborations with Sedes Regia, and his participation in national and international exhibitions.
